Welcome to the Northland Photography Club of Kansas City

The Northland Photography Club was formed in 1969. The club is located in the Northland of Kansas City Missouri. The love of photography brings together a membership that ranges widely in age, interests, and level of expertise. The club provides an excellent source of information and support for the beginner as well as the expert through formal presentations and the informal exchange of ideas and techniques.

Membership

While guests are welcome anytime at our meetings, membership in the club entitles you to join in all club activities including, but not limited, to those outlined in the next section.

Annual membership is $15.00 for one person, or $17.00 for a family. At this time, we do not prorate for dues paid during the year. Our Club year begins on January 1st each year.

Club Activities

Print Competitions: We have print competitions at every monthly meeting from January through November. The competitions are based on a monthly theme and every member is allowed to submit one print each month. The print may be up to 12 inches on the long side and 8.5 inches on the short side. The monthly themes can be found on the Meetings page. Unless stated differently for a specific monthly theme, the photo must be taken after the meeting when the theme was announced, which is typically in December of the prior year. All prints should have the members name and title of the print on the back. A digital copy must be presented to the designated official for inclusion on the website.

Annual Run-Off Contest: During the December meeting, the club members vote on their favorite photos of the year. The top three photos are awarded prizes and the winning photo is displayed on the front page of this site the following year.

Guest Speakers: Some meetings will have a guest speaker on a topic of general photograhic interest.

How-to, Hands-on Demonstrations: Members and guest speakers often give demonstrations on a variety of software and photographic techniques.

Slide Shows by Members: Members love to share their photos and they are often presented in slideshows during the meetings

West Bottoms Field Trips: The club has field trips around the Kansas City area and occasionally beyond. Many impromptu photo walks are generated through the Facebook group. A list of suggested field trips is on the Meetings page.

Photography Exhibits: The club is always looking for opportunities to display and sell members photos through art fairs and other exhibition venues.

Literature Sharing: Members bring their slightly used magazines to share with other members. Books on photography are also shared.

Christmas Potluck: The December meeting starts early and includes a delicious pot luck dinner

Picnic: A great way to get together with other club members and their families.
